These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the StudyLess mobile application and related services ("Service") provided by StudyLess ("Company", "we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree with these Terms, do not use the Service.

1. Definitions

  • "Service" means the StudyLess app and all related features, including AI-based flashcard generation and spaced repetition learning using the FSRS algorithm.
  • "User" means any person who accesses or uses the Service.
  • "Member" means a User who has created an account.
  • "Content" means images, PDFs, text, and other materials uploaded by a Member, as well as flashcards generated from such materials by AI.
  • "AI-generated Content" means flashcards and learning materials automatically generated by AI technologies (such as Google Gemini).

2. Eligibility

StudyLess is not intended for children under 13 years old. By using the Service, you represent that:

  • You are at least 13 years old, and
  • You meet any higher minimum age required by the laws of your country (for example, 16 in some EU member states, or 18 in some jurisdictions).

If we become aware that a Member does not meet the applicable minimum age, we may terminate the account and delete associated personal data.

3. Account Registration and Security

To use certain features, you must create an account using:

  • Email and password, or
  • "Sign in with Apple" or "Sign in with Google".

You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

If you believe your account has been compromised, notify us at support@studyless.app.

4. Service Description

The Service includes, among other things:

  • Uploading images and PDFs containing your study materials
  • AI-based extraction of text and generation of flashcards from your uploads
  • Personalized spaced repetition scheduling using the FSRS algorithm
  • Learning progress tracking, streaks, and statistics
  • Review of previously generated flashcards
  • Synchronization of your study data across devices

We may add, modify, or remove features from time to time.

As of the Effective Date, the Service is provided free of charge. If we introduce paid features or subscriptions in the future, we will provide clear information and, where required, obtain your consent before charging.

5. Use of the Service

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. In particular, you must not:

  • Provide false information when creating an account
  • Use another person's identity or account
  • Upload or share Content that infringes any third party's copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights
  • Upload Content that is illegal, obscene, hateful, violent, or discriminatory
  • Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others
  • Use the Service for unauthorized commercial purposes, including reselling the Service or AI-generated Content
  • Upload Content that contains highly sensitive personal information, such as government ID numbers, bank account numbers, or credit card numbers
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise derive source code from the Service, except where allowed by law
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, servers, or networks connected to the Service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable laws.

6. User Content and AI-Generated Content

6.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of the Content you upload (images, PDFs, text, and other materials).

By uploading Content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to:

  • Use, reproduce, process, and display your Content for the purpose of providing the Service (including AI-based flashcard generation, spaced repetition scheduling, and syncing across your devices)
  • Create derived flashcards and learning materials for your own use within StudyLess
  • Use aggregated and anonymized information derived from your Content and usage for analytics and service improvement

You represent and warrant that:

  • You have all necessary rights to upload your Content and grant this license, and
  • Your Content does not infringe any third party's rights or violate applicable laws.

We do not use your original Content as training data for our own AI models. We also do not permit our analytics or error monitoring providers to use your Content for advertising profiling.

6.2 AI-Generated Content

The Service generates flashcards and other learning materials using AI technologies.

  • AI-generated Content is based on your uploaded materials and AI models. It may contain inaccuracies or omissions.
  • AI-generated Content is provided for reference only and does not constitute professional, educational, legal, or exam advice.
  • You are responsible for verifying AI-generated Content against reliable sources, especially for important exams or high-stakes decisions.

You may use AI-generated Content for your own personal learning. You may not resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit AI-generated Content from StudyLess without our prior written permission.

7. Account Deletion and Data Export

You can:

  • Export your data from within the app (e.g., decks, cards, and related information), and
  • Delete your account using the in-app settings menu.

When you delete your account:

  • Your account and associated study data (decks, cards, review history, streaks, FSRS parameters, uploaded files) will be deleted or irreversibly anonymized within a reasonable period.
  • We may retain limited information where required by law or necessary to protect our legal rights (for example, logs for security purposes).

If you signed up with Apple, we will also take appropriate steps to terminate the link between your Apple ID and your StudyLess account in accordance with Apple's requirements.

8. AI and Algorithmic Recommendations

StudyLess uses AI and algorithms (including the FSRS algorithm) to:

  • Generate flashcards from your uploaded materials
  • Recommend when to review each card
  • Suggest study schedules and intensities based on your past performance and exam dates

These recommendations are automated, but they do not produce legal or similarly significant effects. They only affect how and when cards are shown to you.

You remain responsible for:

  • Deciding how to study, what material to trust, and when to stop using the Service
  • Verifying AI-generated Content and schedules against your own judgment and other sources

9. Intellectual Property

Except for your Content and AI-generated Content created for your account, all rights in and to the Service, including but not limited to software, design, trademarks, logos, and overall look and feel, are owned by us or our licensors.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.

You may not reproduce, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from the Service or any part of it, except as permitted by these Terms or applicable law.

10. Disclaimers

The Service (including AI-generated Content and scheduling recommendations) is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we:

  • Do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components.
  • Do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated Content or suggestions.
  • Do not guarantee that you will achieve any particular learning results, exam scores, or outcomes.

You use the Service at your own risk. Always verify critical information and do not rely solely on StudyLess for important academic or professional decisions.

For users in the EEA/EU and UK: Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is not permitted by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or other mandatory consumer rights.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, StudyLess and its owner shall not be liable for:

  • Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill
  • Damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service, including reliance on AI-generated Content or learning schedules

Our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of:

  • The amount you have paid us (if any) in the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or
  • USD 50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such cases, these limitations will apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.

12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

The governing law depends on where you live:

EEA/EU and UK consumers:

These Terms are subject to any mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence. You may bring legal proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.

Users in the United States:

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Where permitted by law, disputes that cannot be resolved informally may be submitted to binding arbitration on an individual basis. You and StudyLess agree that any such arbitration will be conducted on an individual, not class-wide, basis. You may also bring claims in small claims court where allowed.

Users in other countries:

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without prejudice to any mandatory protections you have under the laws of your country of residence.

Before initiating formal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us at support@studyless.app so we can try to resolve the issue informally.

13. Changes to the Service and to These Terms

We may update or modify the Service over time, including adding or removing features.

We may also update these Terms:

  • For minor changes, we will post the updated Terms with a new Effective Date.
  • For material changes that significantly affect your rights, we will provide more prominent notice (for example, in-app notifications). If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.

Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms become effective means you accept the changes.
